Families, independent readers, home educators and community groups can all take part. An adult registers the challenge, then a private Reader Code is emailed automatically for setting a goal, recording reading and earning badges.

A parent, guardian or adult participant provides the contact details. Please never use a child’s full name in public challenge information.

Your unique code and challenge links are emailed automatically to keep reading activity private and connected to the campaign.

Student privacy comes first
Students can take part using class or Reader Codes. Public school pages show combined progress without displaying students’ full names, and the reading postcard maker does not store what is entered.

Good things to know
When does Read for Jarjum run?
The challenge begins on Wednesday 2 September 2026, Indigenous Literacy Day, and concludes on Friday 25 September 2026.
Does it cost a school to register?
No. Registration is free and participating schools receive resources to help them run the challenge.
Does every student need to fundraise?
No. Schools can take part through reading and learning. Fundraising is an opportunity for communities that would like to extend their impact.
Do home readers need to fundraise?
No. Individuals and families can register, receive a private Reader Code and complete the reading challenge without fundraising. Creating a public fundraising page is entirely optional.
Will student names be publicly visible?
They do not need to be. The campaign is designed so school and team progress can be shown publicly without displaying students’ full names.
Can people support Read for Jarjum without joining a school?
Yes. Supporters can donate directly to the campaign or share it with a school or community that may wish to participate.
